Short Halloween reads - October 30, 2024
Each year, I like to read a classic horror story for Halloween. Since it’s a bit late to commit to a full novel, I thought I’d recommend some short horror reads.
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - Robert Louis Stevenson
This story is quite good, though it’s a bit ruined by being everywhere in popular culture. The writing is compelling and the plot is unsettling. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is such an essential part of the zeitgeist, I think this is a must-read. While I recognize Treasure Island as another classic by Stevenson, I do not find it nearly as interesting as Dr. Jekyll.

An Introduction to Huginn - May 23, 2024
I’ve been playing around a lot with Huginn, which is a service that allows you to run “agents” for automation. It is similar to IFTTT.
A lot of people see Huginn, and think it’s cool, but don’t know what to do with it. I didn’t really either when I first heard of the project a few years ago. Hopefully you can get some ideas from this blog.
I have previously written about my “On This Day” software, which was a webserver I handcrafted. It ran a bunch of scripts to pull in data from various sources, and would create a daily digest of the items. Since I put this together fairly quickly several years ago, it runs usually without issue. But it’s annoying to extend, and annoying to debug. I wanted to try to migrate the functionaility to huginn.
